In my career, few projects have been as challenging and rewarding as orchestrating the press conference for the opening of Ryanair’s new €23 million airport hangar at Frankfurt Hahn, Germany, attended by none other than Michael O’Leary.

The Challenge

At the age of 25, I was handed a monumental task: to manage and execute a high-profile press conference that would mark the opening of Ryanair’s state-of-the-art hangar in Frankfurt Hahn. This event was pivotal for Ryanair, representing their strategic shift and expansion into Germany.

The significance of this event was highlighted in a news article from the Irish Independent, which reported on Ryanair’s decision to relocate jobs to Germany as part of this expansion. 

The article underscored the importance of this move for Ryanair’s operational strategy and the critical role the Frankfurt Hahn hangar played in it.

My Role

As the project lead, my responsibilities were extensive:

  • Event Coordination: I meticulously planned the logistics, ensuring every detail—from seating arrangements to press kits—was flawlessly executed.
 
  • Media Relations: I worked closely with international media outlets to secure comprehensive coverage and ensure the event’s key messages were effectively communicated.
 
  • Brand Presentation: Crafting and delivering the core messages that highlighted Ryanair’s achievements and future plans was crucial. This involved preparing speaking points and presentations that aligned with Ryanair’s brand strategy.
 

The Event

The press conference took place at Frankfurt Hahn Airport, a pivotal location for Ryanair’s operations and a central piece in their expansion into the German market. The event featured the unveiling of the new hangar and was attended by industry leaders, media representatives, and, most notably, Ryanair’s CEO, Michael O’Leary.

Enhancing Social Media Presence

In addition to the press conference, I was also responsible for capturing and curating video content for Ryanair’s social media platforms. This included filming key moments of the hangar opening and creating short, engaging videos that were used in social media advertisements. These videos played a significant role in amplifying the event’s reach, driving engagement, and showcasing Ryanair’s expansion to a broader audience online.
